Some YouTubers to watch during quarantine
We've all had a lot of time on our hands lately, sometimes we need to unwind and other times its good to pick up new skills.
Hey reader!
I wanted to say thank you for entrusting me with your inbox a few months ago. I want this newsletter to be a place where I can post unedited/raw thoughts about current trends, new creators and social media. I hope to start posting more!
I’ve found it hard to stay motivated during quarantine, but I’ve been finding a lot of inspiration through searching the internet - more specifically YouTube for more creators to admire.
Here are 4 creators that I think are severally underrated and deserve your views!
Witty, quick and informational. Quarantine has been the best time for a lot of people to chef it up in the kitchen. I know we all have a bunch of time on our hands but doesn't a cooking video that gets straight to the point feel so… refreshing?
Internet Shaquille’s focus on actually teaching you how to cook with what you have and cutting straight to the point has easily moved him to one of my favorite cooking creators on the platform.
Sometimes your brain just needs to rest. Mike’s Mic has been one of the more intriguing ways I’ve found myself zoning out. From ranking the days of the month to finishing vines - his endearing personality and vocabulary of literally speaking in memes makes him so fun to listen to. Plus he has an Australian accent cmon
Airrack makes movies. These videos are so capturing and you see the effort he spends to truly make these insane stunts happen. What a usual creator would make into a 5-part series, Airrack tells a story of a month or multiple months of effort in 10 minutes.
Every video he makes deserves more than a million views and is so relevant to the current youtube space - ‘Collabing’ with David Dobrik, Logan Paul, etc. I’m so surprised he only has 1 video sitting above a million views.
Commentary youtube (Cody Ko, Drew Gooden, etc) suffers from a problem of being predominately white and male. So I’m constantly on the lookout for amazing POC creators who deserve the same about of love the big guys are getting.
Michael Persad is exactly that guy. Every video he puts out gets me to actually laugh out loud. His bashful way of commenting on trending topics and cringe subject matter deserve him way more credit than he’s been getting. Of course he gets my moms vote too, he’s invited to the family parties for sure
Some Life Updates
Since social distancing and quarantine all took place, I moved back home to Michigan to the comfort of home-cooked meals and my highschool bedroom. My sister and her family from Dallas have also been staying with us. I’m wrapping up my internship at Fullscreen in a couple of weeks and have been in conversation with a few companies about what’s next.
Currently, I have no plans to come back to California yet - but I am still paying rent for my apartment and need to move out sometime in June. I actually graduated the week after UCLA switched to online classes in March. It was an unexpected end and I’ve really had to shift my mindset the past few months. Lots of goodbyes that happened too soon.
